Key Benefits of the CAS

  • Quick Access to Risk Information: Provides a simplified overview of hazards and control measures.

  • QR Code Integration: Allows instant access to full assessment details via mobile devices.

Creating a COSHH Assessment Summary

COSHH Assessment Summaries can be published with a COSHH Assessment. Before publishing a COSHH Assessment, toggle on the option to Include Summary to generate the summary.

Once the COSHH Assessment is complete, click Publish to finalise the assessment and automatically generate the CAS.

Note: Only COSHH Assessments with a single substance can have a CAS. Publishing a CAS does not affect the assessment limit.

Viewing a COSHH Assessment Summary

In the Assessments area, View Published Files for a select COSHH Assessment. If the assessment was published with a summary, users can click View Summary to access the CAS.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does publishing a summary cost an extra assessment credit?

    • No. It is an add-on to an assessment you have already created and does not consume an additional credit.

  • Why is the summary toggle greyed out?

    • The assessment contains more than one substance. Summaries can only be published for single substance assessments; the on-screen message explains this when the toggle is disabled.

  • I added another substance to an assessment that had a summary — what happens?

    • You are prompted that the new substance won't be reflected in the summary, and a new revision can't be created to match. The original single-substance version stays as the latest published summary.

  • Can I edit a summary directly?

    • You edit it indirectly by revising the COSHH assessment in the Risk Assessment Wizard. Each revision to the assessment creates a new revision of the summary.

  • Where does the QR code go?

    • To the COSHH Assessment PDF. A login is required, since it is your account data.

  • Where do I find a published summary?

    • In the Assessments table — through the Actions menu on the assessment, or under View Published Files.

  • Does the summary replace my COSHH assessment?

    • No. It is an alternative way to review an assessment. The full assessment remains your detailed record.
