Substance Risk Summary (SRS)

The Substance Risk Summary (SRS) is a single-page document that provides a concise overview of a substance's hazards, taken from its Safety Data Sheet. This guide explains what the SRS is, how it works, and how users can view and utilize it in their work.

Written by Caim Hermoso

The Substance Risk Summary (SRS) is designed to help companies easily monitor risks by providing a summarised version of the safety information for a substance. An SRS is generated automatically from a substance's Safety Data Sheet (SDS), offering a quick reference for workers and safety managers.

The feature must be activated before use. To enable it, contact support@sevron.co.uk or book a Feature Activation Call. Book a Call Now.

Key Benefits of the SRS

  • Quick Access to Risk Information: Provides a simplified overview of a substance's hazards and control measures.

  • QR Code Integration: Allows instant access to the full Safety Data Sheet via mobile devices.

  • Always Current: The summary updates automatically whenever an SDS update is accepted.

Creating a Substance Risk Summary

Substance Risk Summaries are created automatically — there is no separate step. When an SDS is added to your library, its Substance Risk Summary is added at the same time.

Note: Substance Risk Summaries are generated from the SDS and cannot be edited. Users can add unlimited SDSs and Substance Risk Summaries, and they do not affect your assessment limit.

Viewing a Substance Risk Summary

In the Substances area, users can view a Substance Risk Summary when they:

  • Search a substance in the MSDS Library Search.

  • Click Actions on a substance in the Approved Substance List or Substance Inventory.

  • View the Substance Details page.

Keeping the Summary Up to Date

  • The SRS always reflects the current version of its SDS:

  • When an SDS update is accepted, the linked Substance Risk Summary updates automatically to match.

  • The Created On date updates when the SDS update is accepted.

  • The Review Date on the summary reads On Next SDS Update.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to create a Substance Risk Summary?

    • No. One is generated automatically for every SDS in your library. There is no manual add step.

  • Can I edit a Substance Risk Summary?

    • No. It is generated from the SDS and cannot be edited. If you need a summary that covers a specific task, publish a COSHH Assessment Summary instead.

  • How many Substance Risk Summaries can I have?

    • As many as you have SDSs — there is currently no limit, and they do not affect your assessment limit.

  • What happens when the SDS is updated?

    • When you accept the SDS update, the Substance Risk Summary updates automatically to match and its Created On date is refreshed.

  • Where does the QR code go?

    • To the substance's Safety Data Sheet. QR codes on the summary are accessible to all users.

  • Who can see Substance Risk Summaries?

    • All Substance Risk Summaries are linked to their SDS, so they are visible to users with access to the Substance Inventory area. Once the feature is activated, Super Users can enable it for their members.

  • How is an SRS different from a COSHH Assessment Summary?

    • A Substance Risk Summary is based on the SDS and describes the substance itself, with no task details. A COSHH Assessment Summary is based on a COSHH Assessment and covers how the substance is used in a specific task.

  • Does the summary replace my Safety Data Sheet?

    • No. It is a quick reference for the substance's hazards. The full SDS remains your detailed record, and the QR code links straight to it.
