Publishing a draft template so it can be used

Why new templates start as drafts, and how to publish them.

Written by Caim Hermoso

Who this is for: Needs Manage My Audit Templates (Audit Manager or Audit Administrator by default).

Every template arrives in My Audit Templates as a Draft, whether it was added from the library or built in the Template Builder. Drafts cannot be used to schedule or conduct audits. This is deliberate — it gives you a chance to check or adapt the template before anyone runs an audit from it.

To publish:

  1. Open Audits > My Audit Templates.

  2. Find the draft template.

  3. Open the ⋮ menu and choose Edit Template to review it, or publish directly if no changes are needed.

  4. Select Publish Template.

Draft and Published state is global to the template. A template saved to five locations is Draft in all five, or Published in all five — you cannot publish it in one location only.

If this doesn’t work

  • No Publish option — you do not have Manage My Audit Templates. Ask an Audit Manager or Administrator.

  • Publish fails validation — the template needs a name at minimum. See 3.18.
