Scheduled vs ad hoc audits

The two ways to start an audit and when to use each.

Who this is for: All users with Schedule Audits or Conduct Audits.

Scheduled audit — planned in advance. You pick the template, the location, the owner, the auditor and the date. An audit record is created with status Scheduled and the auditor is notified. On the day, they open the record and work through it.

Use this for anything with a date in a plan: your internal audit programme, supplier audits, annual reviews.

Ad hoc audit — started immediately. You go straight into the audit wizard and begin. A record is created as In Progress at the moment you start.

Use this for anything routine and frequent — a daily fire safety walk-round, a weekly cleaning check, a spot inspection — where scheduling each one in advance would be more work than the audit itself.

Both are enabled by default, and an administrator can switch either off in Audit Settings. At least one must remain on.

Both count against your audit allowance at the point they are created.
