Who this is for: Audit Administrators.
In Settings → System Settings → Audit Settings → General Settings:

Enable Scheduled Audits | Users with schedule permissions can schedule audits from a template |
Enable Ad Hoc Audits | Users with Conduct Audits can start an audit immediately, with no prior scheduling |
At least one must remain on. Switching both off produces an error.
When to switch ad hoc off. If your audit programme is planned and you need every audit to be traceable to a plan, switching off ad hoc audits enforces that. If your teams do frequent routine checks, leave it on — forcing them to schedule a daily fire door walk-round creates work for no gain.
